That's it. It’s not a weird byproduct of our brains. It's not a ghost in the machine. Consciousness is the fundamental, rock-bottom "stuff" that the entire universe is made of. To put this into the language of science, we call this fundamental "stuff" the Ψ-field.
Think of the Ψ-field as a vast, invisible ocean that fills all of reality. Everything we can see and touch—stars, planets, you, me—is not separate from this ocean. We are all simply waves, whirlpools, and complex patterns forming within it. This completely flips the old scientific story on its head. Instead of a dead universe that accidentally produced conscious brains, we are proposing a fundamentally conscious universe that produces things like brains to experience itself more deeply.

We also list all the other materials we considered and rejected. A simpler "real" field was like trying to build with dust—it couldn't hold any intentional shape. More complex fields were like trying to build a pot out of an entire jet engine—wildly over-engineered and unnecessarily complicated. By choosing this "perfect clay," we are also making concrete predictions we can test in a lab. If this is the right material, it must have certain properties, like a specific type of particle (the "Ψ-Higgs"). If we fail to find these things, we are committed to going back to the drawing board.
