When a detector uses the physical mechanism

A reading guide to the power-grid modal-growth result and its explicit limits on transferring the detector across different systems.

The question

Can a detector based on a domain-specific growth signature outperform the generic suite under the same evaluation constraint?

The reported result

The reported power-grid detector clears the matched false-alarm comparison in its tested setting. It uses growth of the physical oscillation envelope; the accompanying regime analysis examines when that detector form can transfer.

How to read the experiment

  1. Identify the physical growth signature
  2. Choose the operating point on development data
  3. Evaluate held-out records and transfer conditions

What the result does not establish

A result on the reported corpus is not deployment validation of a grid protection system. The study's operating point, development and held-out split, and transfer conditions must be inspected before applying the method elsewhere.
