ANULUM / DISCOVERY
A shared scientific glossary
Plain explanations of terms used across the learning paths, with links to the original technical material and its assumptions.
- Stochastic computing
- Representing numbers through probabilities in bit streams, with arithmetic performed on those representations. Read the source explanation ↗
- Spike
- A discrete event emitted by a spiking neuron model. Its timing can carry information. Read the source explanation ↗
- Phase
- A position in an oscillation cycle, expressed as an angle. Read the source explanation ↗
- Order parameter
- In the Kuramoto playground, the magnitude of the mean unit phase vector. It lies between zero and one and describes collective phase alignment. Read the source explanation ↗
- Convergence ratio
- The initial radius divided by the compressed radius. The compression explorer denotes it by C. Read the source explanation ↗
- Flux compression
- In the ideal cylindrical relation used by the explorer, conservation of axial magnetic flux gives B = B₀ C². Real systems can lose flux. Read the source explanation ↗
- Closed-form calculation
- Evaluation of an explicit relationship on a declared input set. It is not necessarily a time-evolving simulation. Read the source explanation ↗
- Matched control
- A comparison condition selected to keep relevant experimental conditions aligned while changing the intervention being studied. Read the source explanation ↗
- False-alarm budget
- A defined allowance for alarms on control or non-transition data, used to compare detectors at a common operating constraint. Read the source explanation ↗
- Preprint
- A publicly available manuscript whose presence in an archive does not itself establish journal peer review. Read the source explanation ↗
- DOI
- A persistent identifier that resolves to the record of a research output. Read the source explanation ↗
- Recorded notebook
- A page showing code and the outputs of a recorded run. Reading it does not execute a new calculation. Read the source explanation ↗
